Women in Engineering

The Women in Engineering Bursary is available to female students who are:

  • commencing a university undergraduate program in 2009 straight from high school (or a gap year)
  • and who have applied to study a Bachelor of Engineering degree at QUT.

What is the purpose of the Women in Engineering Bursary?

The bursary is designed to encourage and support female students entering undergraduate Engineering studies at QUT.

How many bursaries will be awarded in 2009?

Six (6) bursaries of $6,000 per bursary ($3,000 per year for two years) will be awarded in 2009.

The bursary will be paid in two equal instalments to the bursary recipients, the first of which will be paid during the course of Semester 1, 2009 with the second instalment paid during Semester 1, 2010.

Who is eligible to apply?

You are eligible to apply for the bursary if you:

  • are female; and
  • completed Year 12 (or a gap year) during the year previous to enrolment; and
  • applied for a position in the Bachelor of Engineering course at QUT in 2009; and
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or Australian permanent protection visa holder.

Please note that if you are also applying for the Dean’s Scholars Program and/or a VC Scholarship, you will only be granted one of these scholarships/ bursaries.

Application form

The application form and information sheet can be downloaded from this website. Applications close Friday 28 November 2008

How will the successful applicants be selected?

A selection panel will allocate the bursary to the students who have maintained an active participation in extra-curricular activities and undertaken leadership, based on the information in the application.

There will be no interviews.

How will I know if I am successful?

Successful applicants for a bursary will be contacted personally.

Note: an offer of a bursary does not constitute an offer in the course; i.e. standard QUT and QTAC admission rules still apply. Please note, while deferment is an option for this course, this bursary will not be available to students who defer.

Unsuccessful applicants will be notified individually by mail.
