Women in Engineering

Ten (10) Women in Engineering Bursaries of $6,000 per bursary ($3,000 per year for two years) are available each year to female students who commence a full-time Bachelor of Engineering degree straight from high school, or a gap year, at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

The Monique Cramer Memorial Award

Monique Cramer was a QUT student who was passionate about engineering and always encouraged those around her to stay focused and achieve their goals. Tragically, Monique died in a road accident in May 2008 and was awarded a Bachelor of Technology (Civil) posthumously in July of that year.

Monique’s classmates are determined that her memory be honoured in perpetuity and have launched the Monique Cramer Memorial Award which will be awarded in conjunction with the Women in Engineering Bursary that Monique herself received. This recipient will emulate Monique’s community spirit and passion for engineering.

All recipients of the Women in Engineering Bursary will be eligible for the Monique Cramer Award.

What is the purpose of the Women in Engineering Bursary and the Monique Cramer Memorial Award?

The Women in Engineering Bursary and the Monique Cramer Memorial Award are designed to encourage and support female students entering Engineering at QUT.

Who is eligible to apply?

You are eligible to apply for the Women in Engineering Bursary and the Monique Cramer Memorial Award if you:

  • are female; and
  • completed Year 12 (or a gap year) in the year proceeding enrollment at QUT; and
  • applied for a position in the Bachelor of Engineering (EN40) course at QUT; and
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder.

How will the successful applicants be selected?

Applications for the Women in Engineering Bursary and the Monique Cramer Memorial Prize open in approximately August of the year proceeding enrollment at QUT and close in November. A selection panel will allocate the bursary to the students who have maintained an active participation in extra-curricular activities and undertaken leadership, based on the information in the application. There will be no interviews. Successful applicants for a bursary will be contacted personally in early January. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified individually by mail.

Please note that you are encouraged to also apply for the Dean’s Scholars Program, a VC Scholarship, and/or a Dean’s Bursary for High Achievement. However, students can only be granted one of these scholarships/ bursaries. An offer of a bursary does not constitute an offer in the course; i.e. standard QUT and QTAC admission rules still apply. Please note, while deferment is an option for this course, this bursary will not be available to students who defer.
