In the Faculty, over 800 students from 31 countries choose to study in the areas of Design, Engineering Systems and Urban Development.  We are continually strengthening links through study tours to Africa, China, France, India, Hong Kong and Spain.

There is a multidisciplinary focus as students have the opportunity to work with peers from other disciplines on real projects with local government, community groups and research centres both onshore and offshore.

In addition to using the services and support available to all students, international students have found value in being part of the Buddy Mentoring Scheme and Peer Mentoring Program where new students can increase their confidence as they network with a more experienced student.

The Faculty also has an Academic Advisor to International Students who is available for student consultation.  A number of Research, Undergraduate and Postgraduate scholarships are on offer for high achieving international students.

Support for students

The Faculty and University have a commitment to student welfare.  We know that international students have specific needs from first year through to finding employment.

  • The Peer Tutoring Scheme is available for first year international students who require assistance with their study.  Tutors are senior students who have successfully completed the units you wish to focus on.  Contact Dr Anoma Kumarasuriyar, the Academic Advisor to International Students.
  • New students can more easily adjust to study with the Buddy Mentoring Scheme. Buddy mentoring is about sharing experiences between students. Student peers help new international students adjust to the way of life in QUT and Brisbane in general. We appreciate your involvement in our buddy scheme and encourage you to contact us to participate in this initiative.
  • Equity is important at QUT and staff and student diversity is valued.
  • The First Year Experience Program addresses the topic of change and transition for students in their first year of university.
  • Our Research Students Centre offers support programs for international postgraduate students to further assist them with their studies.

Experience in your chosen field is highly regarded by employers.  The University's Career Mentor Scheme (QUT Access required) can assist you in becoming an ideal candidate and increase your chances of gaining employment, perhaps even before you graduate. It allows you to gain insight into your chosen field and to develop contacts.

After you graduate, you are invited to maintain contact with the university through the Alumni which has a number of branches overseas.

International Study Opportunities

One of the best ways to get an idea of what it is like to study at QUT is from students who have already experienced it.  You can explore the Study Abroad and Student Exchange programs. There are also a number of international student scholarships available.  There are also some useful links for international students.
