Study rules for second majors and minors in the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering
Definitions:
- Second Major – a secondary field of study comprising 8 units.
- Minor – a smaller area of study comprising 4 units.
You must refer to your Course Summary Sheet to see where the second major or minor units appear in your course of study.
Your selections must conform to the following rules:
- Minors, must be selected with one minor being outside your course of study. For example an Architectural Studies student cannot enroll in minors in Industrial Design and Landscape Architecture as both of these minors are within the course. In this instance the student can only enroll in one of these minors - the other must come from outside of the course, either within the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering or from the approved University Wide Sets.
-
When you enrol in a second major or minor/s that is not offered by BEE, you should choose the following code/s and title/s
- EXM – Non-BEE Second Major
- EXA – Non-BEE Minor 1
- EXB – Non-BEE Minor 2
from the list on your QUT Virtual enrolment portal.
- If you are applying for advanced standing (academic credit) for any unit/s that make up a second major or minor/s unit set, you must complete a Second Major / Minor Approval Form and lodge it at a BEE Student Services counter. If you change your study program, any advanced standing you have received in relation to approved unit sets may be revoked. Please refer to more information on Advanced Standing - second majors & minors and Policy E/4.2 Academic credit from the QUT Manual of Policies and Procedures.
Remember, your enrolment is your responsibility. Be sure to get it right. If you have questions ask at your local BEE Student Services counter or email bee.enquiries@qut.edu.au.
