What is Civil and Environmental engineering?

Civil and Environmental Engineering is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering concerned with planning, designing, building and maintaining infrastructure facilities such as transport systems and wastewater treatment facilities. The focus is on providing these engineering
infrastructures while assessing and managing the effects of human and other activity on the natural and built environment.

Civil and Environmental Engineers devise, implement and manage solutions to protect and restore the environment, within an overall engineering framework of sustainable development. They work on a range of projects related to land, water and transport in an environmentally
sensitive manner. They do this by applying their engineering knowledge and skills to such things as environmental impact assessment, natural resources management and pollution control.

Civil and Environmental Engineers often work as part of a team, at times pooling expertise on particular projects. They may work in offices and on site when involved in construction projects.

Why choose Civil and Environmental engineering at QUT?

Civil and Environmental Engineering at QUT gives you the technical knowledge and practical experience you need to jump straight into the profession.

You will learn about technical civil and environmental engineering and science, as well as environmental management skills in urban infrastructure and mining development. You will also learn about the social, legal government and economic topics related to sustainable development.

QUT also gives you real engineering experiences through the industrial experience course component, making you work-ready and giving you the employment edge. At the end of your
study, you can be recognised with provisional accreditation from Engineers Australia (EA).

Is Civil and Environmental engineering for you?

If you are interested in any of the following, you may enjoy a career in Civil and Environmental Engineering:

  • Technical and engineering activities
