What is Civil Engineering?Civil Engineers plan, design, construct and maintain a variety of structures and facilities that benefit society - from roads and skyscrapers to railways and harbours. They are also involved with the assessment of the impact of projects on the natural and social environment in which they are to be constructed. Civil Engineers have a responsibility to produce safe, economical and environmentally sound infrastructure for the community. Civil Engineers may work in the following engineering fields: structural, water resources, soil and rocks, transport, environmental or construction. They can work in an office environment where they investigate, plan, design and manage projects or spend their time on site, managing and supervising construction.
