Project Management Academy

The Project Management Academy (PMA) is dedicated to research and development in project management across all industries and sectors. The cross-faculty, multi-discipline approach of the PMA is ideally suited to QUT’s drive for excellence in project management, which it pursues in collaboration with industry-leading organisations. Significant amongst these is the Royal Dutch Shell Plc, ranked third in the world in terms of turnover (Source: Fortune 500 Global 2006).

The PMA’s mission and project portfolio reflects QUT’s commitment to applied research meeting industry needs. Research challenges have both an academic and industrial dimension and are solved through the living laboratory of industry. The PMA aims to replace conventional thinking and development with new concepts and practices that are capable of propelling its industrial partners into new markets, whilst maintaining world-class reputations in existing markets.

Research projects are currently underway in the areas of organisational design and change, project initiation, knowledge and learning, high performing project managers, and relationship management. Each area is supported by a team of experts with relevant industrial experience and strong academic track-records. The teams are further strengthened by a global network of internationally-leading academics, with longstanding working relationships with colleagues at QUT.

A complementary activity is education and training (in-company) in the fundamentals of project management and programme management. The PMA has evolved a unique and compelling format for delivering courses and programmes that emphasises the importance of applying new-found knowledge and skills in the workplace. The approach is based on blended learning in which course and programme participants mix online, in-class and workplace activities geared to solving real world problems. Participants find the approach challenging, stimulating and rewarding, leading to improved performance and job satisfaction.

PMA’s research, education and training offers organisations in both the private and public sector a unique resource for solving the most challenging problems.
