Medical Engineering students are part of the Medical Device Domain.  This domain is one of six interdisciplinary domains in which scientists are researching and applying their expertise to critical health issues.  All full-time Medical Engineering students of the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering should refer to the information contained in For Research Students on the website.  You should also obtain a HDR Survival Guide from the Research Portfolio office or download one from the website.

Medical Engineering Students based at Gardens Point

When you first arrive at QUT, and for all further assistance and submission of paperwork related to your candidature, you should visit the BEE Research Portfolio Office.

Work Space

You will be allocated a desk and desktop computer in a postgraduate student room controlled by the Research Portfolio office.  These rooms are located in D, S, O, L and P Blocks at Gardens Point.  Wherever possible you will be allocated a workspace in the same building as the office of your principal supervisor.

For some rooms you will receive a key that MUST be returned to the office at the end of your candidature.  If the key is lost it must be replaced at your own expense (from your research expense allocation).  For other rooms you will be granted swipe card access for the duration of your candidature.  It is important that you remain in this allocated work space unless directed to move to an alternative location as directed by the Research Portfolio staff.  Points to remember:

  • Keep your allocated area clean and tidy
  • Only use the workstation allocated to you
  • Consume hot food only in the kitchen areas provided in each block
  • Keep kitchen areas clean - this includes appropriate disposal of rubbish, washing and wiping of utensils and cleaning and defrosting fridges

Please note if you change your study mode to part-time, you will lose the right to use a full-time space and will be given access to our part-time facility in S Block Gardens Point.

Printing

Local printers are provided for your convenience but are not to be used for large print jobs over 50 pages (eg thesis).  For an allocation for printing and photocopying from the library from your student research expense account contact the Research Portfolio office.

  • Thesis for examination can be printed from V Block at Gardens Point
  • Final bound thesis can be printed from QPS or other professional printeries

Help Services

For all technical (computing) problems contact the ITHelpdesk x84000.  Please note that if you are logging a job you MUST supply your name, student number, room location (campus and building) and desk number.

For all general maintenance (light bulbs, broken furniture, etc) and cleaning (obtaining a paper or all purpose bin) call Facilities Management x83000.

A paper bin is provided near your local printer.  Please ensure that paper ONLY is placed in this bin - do not use this bin for waxed paper, cardboard, envelopes and general refuse.  When this bin is full it can be left near the lift shaft for collection.

A receptacle is also provided near printers for used toner cartridges.  Please do not place other objects in this bin.
