Milestones in your candidature |
|
The milestones that are in place throughout your candidature are there to (1) assist you to keep to a timeline, and (2) to assist the Faculty in monitoring your progress. It is important to plan ahead to meet these milestones. Please note that scholarship conditions rely on timely and successful completion of milestones. Survival GuideThe Research Portfolio staff have produced a Survival Guide. This guide contains helpful information and contact details to aid you throughout your candidature. Stage 2 ProposalCompleted at 3 months full-time or 6 months part-time. The Stage 2 process is about:
Master by ResearchStage 2 Form and Faculty Checklist. PhDStage 2 form and Faculty checklist. Examples of Stage 2 ProposalsAnnual Progress ReportThis is due 30th September, every year. The report is an online form through your Student QUT Virtual (click on Research Forms link in the Student Administration tab). All current Higher Degrees Research students are required to complete an Annual Progress Report. The Research Students Centre advises students via email when the report is due for completion. Confirmation of CandidatureFor PhD students and Masters students articulating to the PhD Completed at 12 months full-time or 2 years part-time. Confirmation of Candidature involves the student submitting a detailed report (the Confirmation Document) to a review panel, and presenting a public presentation of their research plan and work completed to date (Confirmation Seminar). To book your confirmation seminar contact the BEE Research Portfolio Office and download the form: Confirmation of Candidature. Final SeminarFor PhD students only Completed 3 months prior to end of course. In order to determine whether a PhD thesis is ready for examination, the candidate is required to present an oral defence / final seminar. This involves submitting a draft of the thesis to the Internal Review Panel and making a public presentation of the research. To book your final seminar contact the BEE Research Portfolio Office. Thesis Examination and SubmissionWhen the student and supervisor are satisfied that the thesis is ready for examination the supervisor will provide the BEE Research Portfolio Office with a Nomination of Examiners form and the student should lodge 3 temporary bound copies of the thesis and the form: Lodgement of Thesis for Examination found on the page Examination Forms - Research Students Centre. Before the you are able to bind your final thesis you must:
Final Thesis SubmissionFollowing completion of the examination process, the student must submit the CD Rom and a permanently bound copy of the thesis along with the form: Request for Submission of Final Thesis to the BEE Research Portfolio Office, for approval by the HDR Director and then the Research Degrees Committee. Please note that the final PhD thesis MUST be bound in the Faculty colour, which is a maroon/wine colour, Buckram (2081). The name for this colour may vary depending upon the binding company, but they should generally know what colour is required for each Faculty. Reminder: The Research Portfolio will pay for up to 3 copies of the hard bound thesis, depending on the amount you have available in your student account. You should submit your receipt for this to the Research Office Coordinator who will arrange for reimbursement (please note details of printeries are available on page 45 of HDR Survival Guide). PhD StudentsPhD student must also submit a Graduation Citation on their CD Rom. The citation guidelines can be found on the Research Students Centre website. GraduationWell done on completing your Higher Degree Research program. The graduation process is managed by Student Services, details of cutoff dates for ceremonies etc. can be obtained from the Research Students Centre - Graduation and Beyond page.
