The impact of both freight and people transport tasks would be approaching 20 per cent of GDP in Australia . The task, with associated major impacts on efficiency, safety and the natural environment, requires the attention of the community, governments and universities. QUT has a number of researchers who have a significant interest and strong research track record in Transport and Logistics. Collectively, QUT researchers have been conducting significant research across several disciplines. With a collaborative approach using staff from across the Faculties, QUT has established a significant profile in transport education and research. The Transport and Logistics group consists of researchers in the Faculties of Built Environment and Engineering, Health, Science, Business and IT. The group has established a number of national and international links. The research projects currently underway at QUT involve over 30 postgraduate students and have a very strong industry support. The Queensland government is a major partner through the Departments of Main Roads and Transport, as well as Queensland Rail. The Brisbane Airport Corporation and the Port of Brisbane are other major sponsors of transport related research. Main research areas include:
