The SPR comprises of two major laboratories working in the following research areas - Signal Theory and Digital Signal Processing, and Speech Processing and Image Processing. The two laboratories, namely the CRISSP and Image/Audio Laboratories, are equipped with modern computing facilities.

An ongoing focus of the SPR's activity is in the area of theoretical improvements to time-frequency signal analysis and the implementation of the developed algorithms in the TFSA (Time-Frequency Signal Analysis) package distributed by the SPR.
