The Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering (BEE) is a leader in fundamental and applied research that benefits industry, the professions and the community. Staff and student shave a unique opportunity for cross-disciplinary interaction within internationally-respected research groups. The Faculty employs innovative teaching and research methods that develop the technical knowledge and management skills critical to career advancement.

The Faculty is a major provider of research expertise within QUT across a broad range of disciplines, and serving a wide variety of end-users It has generated approximately 20 per cent of QUT's research output over the past 5 years, and approximately 25 per cent of QUT's Research Publications ( HERDC (Higher Education Research Data Collection) Categories).

Research
The faculty has four research themes: design, infrastructure, medical engineering and smart systems.  These themes are supported by the BEE Research Portfolio Office

Research and Development projects occur across the four themes through project management that reflects QUT’s commitment to applied research which meets industry needs.

Community service
QUT strongly values staff and student involvement in community activities.
