Welcome. Our goals are to offer Australia's best professional courses, be world class scholars in niche areas, operate successful multi-disciplinary schools and be world leaders in our areas of research. We seek to achieve this through integrated scholarship across research, teaching and application of knowledge in the real world. We look to do this in broad areas of design, smart systems, infrastructure, sustainability and medical engineering. More than ever we seek to do this through partnerships across QUT and with external partners.
Our Themes
Our work in medical engineering has already gained recognition and reward through honours from Engineers Australia and the AO organisation in Switzerland. It has also seen us receive more than $5m of State Government support to develop new facilities at the Prince Charles Hospital. Our work in sustainability is pioneering successful inter-disciplinary research and teaching from QUT into the state, national and international arena including the Pacific, South Africa, and for Somalian families in Brisbane.
In Smart Systems research we have had great successes in forming an aerospace automation centre and cementing an international reputation in aerospace work with a stronger focus now on UAVs. Our growing work in infrastructure across construction, electricity, transport, and water continues to grow stronger links with industry and academic partners in Queensland and around the world. We are in an era of a proliferation of league tables and we were proud to see QUT ranked 67th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings as a University of Technology with our faculty a major contributor to that position.
Real World Projects
Students of mechanical engineering, industrial design and electrical engineering in the Faculty have for the first time tested their design, teamwork, ingenuity, speed and endurance in international student motorsport competition. Our students in architecture and planning have also won significant and high profile design competitions and national awards.
Innovative Courses
In recent times, staff in the Faculty have been busy developing a whole new stream of courses throughout the year which make stronger connections across all our disciplines, build upon our successes in teaching and learning over a long period, and build even stronger links both to the workplace and our research strengths. Our alumni have made some great achievements and our Faculty received three different QUT outstanding alumni awards with Faculty, Young Alumni and Chancellor's award winners. Our students individually and collectively continue to dominate state, national and international awards and prizes in a range of disciplines demonstrating the quality of their work and of the staff and courses they engage with.
Ground Breaking Partnerships
In our external engagement we have made great strides in forging new partnerships with companies in Singapore, global oil companies, and so many of our industry partners here in Queensland particular in power engineering, health, aviation and at the airport. We continue to play a leading role in 6 national centres of excellence as Cooperative Research Centres in construction innovation, integrated engineering asset management, rail, interaction design, satellite systems and automotive technologies. These further confirm our role as one of Australia's biggest impact players in research for, with and in industry.
