Integrated Information Model for Community Infrastructure and Asset Management

Making our communities better, safer and more sustainable places to live, work and recreate requires innovative planning and informed decision making. Many different and diverse organisations have a role in planning, building and sustaining our communities and in order to make wise, knowledgeable decision they all need to access timely appropriate knowledge about the services and the infrastructure/assets that support our communities. Many agencies are dependent upon Councils knowledge about services and the infrastructure or assets that enable them. The need for knowledge is diverse, ranging form the planning of integrated transport networks, to the management of counter terrorism for events such as APEC, or mitigation planning for the next bush fire or flood. Yet, there is no universal language for the exchange of asset data or the development of consistent asset processes. Additionally, there is currently no agreed reference framework that consistently describes community infrastructure and assets, such as the road or drainage networks. As a result the problem is often deemed, too hard and decisions are based on perception not reality.

The goals of this project are:

  • to develop an integrated information framework for community based asset management.
  • to establish technology environments for the interoperable exchange and management of asset data.

Public Sector Asset Management Skills and Competencies

The purpose of this project is to define and develop asset management skills required by government sector agencies that have significant ownership of assets. Well-developed skills and competencies as well as practical experience are a prerequisite to maintain capability to manage demand as well to plan and set priorities and ensure on-going asset sustainability. The project will focus on the roles, competencies and skill sets required for identifying and managing the risks, monitoring and measuring the performance of the assets contracted parties, managing the transition from the planning role to the contracting role, and maintaining responsibility for any changes to the scope of work and elements that impact on time and cost as well as stakeholder and project outcomes in asset management.
