The School of Engineering Systems was formed in January 2005 from the Schools of Electrical and Electronic Systems Engineering and Mechanical, Manufacturing and Medical Engineering. The school is home to approximately:

  • 56 full-time academic staff from diverse backgrounds
  • 60 research only staff
  • part-time lecturing staff drawn from industry to enhance our 'real world' orientation
  • 2000 undergraduate students
  • 200 postgraduate coursework students
  • 175 postgraduate research students.

Teaching and learning within the School are enhanced by our research which has an international impact in engineering systems. Our undergraduates are encouraged to become involved in these activities and many are able to continue as research scholars at the University after graduation. Many of the teaching and research staff at the School are active members of the various national and international professional bodies in engineering. Our industry and research focus has a practical purpose and we have developed strong links with industry domestically and internationally.

Several professorial positions in the School have been sponsored by industries such as:

  • Boeing Australia
  • Fuchs Lubricants
  • Mt Isa Mines
  • Powerlink, Energex and Ergon Energy
  • Queensland Health
  • Queensland Orthopedic Research Trust.

The School plays a lead role or undertakes research projects in the National Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) of:

We also have research links with external partners such as the Queensland Sustainable Energy Industry Development Group and Castrol Australia. Our offshore interaction continue to grow with new markets for teaching in China, Malaysia and an affiliate campus of the International Space University in Strasbourg, France.
